The History of Golden Key
Since its founding in 1977, Golden Key International Honour Society has emerged as one of the most dynamic, forward-thinking organizations in higher education. Committed to an ethos of recognizing academic achievement and encouraging altruistic service, the Society has expanded to over 370 universities since its humble beginning at Georgia State University. Over twenty years later, Golden Key can reflect on its noteworthy accomplishments not only in the United States, but also in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and Malaysia.
Golden Key's International Headquarters is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
The University of Memphis chapter began in November, 1978, making this chapter one of the ten oldest Golden Key chapters in the world. The chapter has received many honors, such as the 2004 "Organization of the Year" and "Service of Excellence Award". More recently, the chapter received the Gold standard level for the 2009-2010 academic year. For the past five years, the Memphis chapter has received this honor. In 2009, the Chapter was awarded a Chapter Service Award for Golden Key Headquarters.
